Have you noticed the comparisons between Barack Obama and Abraham Lincoln in the media? Both are running for President at around the same age, with similar political credentials, and from the same state. Obama announced his candidacy at a Lincoln landmark. Some have commented on similar temperaments, or yes, even a similar look (check out the web site with the same name as this blog). Furthermore, Lincoln stood for racial integration, and Obama is a direct example of genetic racial integration. Wouldn't it be poetic if Obama is the reincarnation of Lincoln?
I'm not one to jump into conclusions, so I researched it astrologically. The South Node of the Moon shows the clearest link to one's spiritual history, to lives previously lived, and lessons that the soul is continuing to address. Obama's South Node is conjunct Lincoln's Sun -- a link between Obama's soul lessons and Lincoln's life force. Now, you may say, 'So what!' and I don't blame you -- my son has his Aquarius South Node conjunct Lincoln's Sun, and I'm not fitting him for top hats. But there's more, lot's more ...
Look at the rest of Obama's Nodal story: His Aquarius South Node is in the First House, so his soul has been a leader (First House) for change (Aquarius). He's got the North Node conjunct Uranus in Leo, and Pluto in Virgo, in the Seventh House. His karma involves something wounding (Pluto) delivered from another (Seventh House) that obiterated (Uranus) his life force (Leo) -- this is in opposition to the revolutionary/leadership South Node signature. His soul lessons include working through threats or antagonistic relationships (Seventh House) and moving towards power (Pluto) as a breakthrough personality (Uranus in Leo). He is here to best his enemies, to never back down.
Astrology provides themes, not specifics. It would fit that Obama's soul was assassinated, but there are many other possibilities too. We must explore more. The Moon signifies the essential nature of the soul, how it feels, and what it needs. Saturn is also about the past, a statement of what has been concretized in the soul. Lincoln's Capricorn Moon is conjunct Obama's Saturn in Capricorn, while Obama's Gemini Moon is directly opposite Lincoln's Saturn in Sagittarius -- a double whammy with the planets of the past.
There are a few other links between the charts to ponder. Lincoln had his North Node in Scorpio conjunct Uranus in the Ninth House. He was working toward freeing (Uranus) those in bondage (Scorpio) through political means (Ninth House). Obama has his Neptune precisely conjunct this combination, also in his Ninth House. Barack has a similar political (Ninth House) vision (Neptune) that runs deep (Scorpio). Furthermore, the Sun is a statement about presence, the current life force. Obama's Leo Sun is square his own Neptune, as well as Lincoln's Uranus/North Node, essentially animating and radiating this spiritual connection between them.
Perhaps the most dramatic astrology is the composite chart, which portrays the relational dynamics between any two people. Obama/Lincoln has an Aries South Node conjunct the Moon, lessons around conflict or war (Aries) that was emotionally (Moon) bloody. Opposing the South Node is a Uranus/Mars conjunction in Libra -- sudden violence (Uranus/Mars) disrupting the sign of peace. The spiritual work is to become a newfound (Uranus) leader (Mars) that stands for togetherness, to bridge divides and realize harmony (Libra). Hanging in the balance (squaring the Nodes) is Saturn in Sagittarius, a career (Saturn) as a politician (Sagittarius)!
The composite chart also has Jupiter/Chiron conjunct the Aquarius Ascendant, a persona of a progressive (Aquarius) politician (Jupiter), one that has suffered some wounds and has become weakened (Chiron). Jupiter/Chiron is square Neptune in the Ninth in Scorpio (political visionary), as well as a Taurus Sun (conjunct Venus/Mercury) in the Third, suggesting that oratory (Third House) is accentuated. So, this Taurus Sun (stable, grounded, determined) is in aspect to both Jupiter in Aquarius, and Neptune in the Ninth, which makes it extremely political -- further enhanced by the Saturn (career) in Sagittarius (politics) residing in the Eleventh House, the world stage.
I can't tell you if Obama is Lincoln. What I see is a very compelling spiritual linkage between these two men. Whether or not that means reincarnation, that is for you to ponder and decide. Astrology portrays themes, never concete answers. There is no question that Obama is picking up on Lincoln's work -- that we can say for sure.
