Summer of Love?

I'm reading my Facebook page seeing pictures and stories posted by all the happy couples about their travels and adventures. Of course, couples get to save 50% on housing costs, so they have way lots more disposable income than singles. I watch other friends struggle with illness and family members growing older, and I wonder if they understand how fortunate they are to be coupled while this is going on - I had to do it all alone when my mom had kidney disease. Hell I'm still doing it all alone, having to help out my mom financially, straining my already thin budget that comes from singledom.
.
Really, when you get down to it, I'd rather be dead than single and without the daily love and support that partnership brings.

You know, I came over here to try and divine why you'd say such an outrageous thing to me in a comment on a YouTube. Normally, I pay little attention to such things, but when someone shouts (via ALL CAPS) that I'm scum and commands me to, well, die, that gets my attention.

But now I understand. Keep in mind, friend, that when such things go out into the ether, they are neither unnoticable nor are they unnoticed.

I doubt such sentiments promote either unity nor the sort of enlightenment it appears you are seeking.

Take care, good luck, and godspeed.

Sincerely,

Andrew Langer

Andrew is referring to my assertions, "DIE, REPUBLICAN SCUM, DIE!" on youtube. As long as Republicans want to legislate homosexuals out of existence, and claim to do so because "God hates fags," I will continue to have that sentiment. They have no idea what is really going on in the world, and that being gay is not a choice, but an existential condition, even in the animal kingdom, and is just a part of nature as heterosexuality.

No, you specifically referred to ME, David, despite the fact that you've never met me, never asked me about my views on homosexuality. Essentially, you have painted me with the same ignorant brush of intolerance and venomous hatred that you're apparently decrying.

I've never stated that I wanted anyone to die because they believed something different than me - it's a sentiment that's completely alien to me. Which is why I came over to visit your blog - to see if I could get some sense as to who you are.

And I have, believe you me.

I'm so glad you have become an expert on me, gleaned from bits and pieces that I have written. So go take your fellow conservatives who are trying to destroy our country and to eliminate all protections for the poor, the minorities, the infirm, and GO DROP DEAD!

Expert? Not hardly, nor, having now seen how you've responded to my comments, do I think I'd want to be.

Let's be clear-you called me "scum" and wished me dead, not the other way around. You have apparently become an expert on me - expert enough to make a judgment as to my character, and to make a ruling as to whether or not I deserve to live (I wonder how you feel about the death penalty, incidentally).

I came here to try to get some sense as to what kind of a person would write such a thing. Not to make a judgment, not to become an expert, but to get some sense. I think one can get a general sense of someone based upon what/how they write, especially when they're writing about themselves and their lives.

If you don't think that's the case - if you don't think that I ought to be able to get a sense of who you are, then one wonders why you write such a personal blog, or whether what you're writing here on your blog is honest. And if it's not honest, then what's the point in it?

David, I'm not saying I'm an expert in you. But it's very clear, based upon your statements in this thread alone, that you don't hold yourself at all to the standards to which you apparently hold to conservatives, myself included. That's the very essence of hypocrisy.

Now, if you want to debate policy, and whose political philosophies are doing what to whom, then that's fine. But that's not something I generally do with people who have demonstrated such an overwhelming sense of intolerance, hatred, and hypocrisy.

I'm not starting a debate with a representative of a movement who routinely denies civil rights to gay persons! And I routinely tell all Republican Scum on youtube to die! So stop taking it so personally - you are no more important than any other Republican Scum.

And likewise, I have no wish to debate a representative of a movement of people who make gross generalizations about others as a pretext for wishing that they were dead, and in so doing, makes their hypocrisy manifest.

You say that you feel hopeless about the politics of this country, especially the polarization?

Then perhaps you ought not contribute to that polarization by making polarizing statements.
